Mcspadden Park Concept Project 2023

A real-time architectural visualization created as a concept for improvements to McSpadden Park. This project was developed during Industrial3D’s transition into using Unreal Engine for archviz, giving me the opportunity to work closely with my Art Director and take a deeper role in real-time scene development.

My Role:

I was more involved on this project, handling a significant portion of the modeling, scene preparation, and Unreal integration while collaborating closely with my Art Director. This project also allowed me to study the final Unreal scene to better understand their full environment-building workflow.

Responsibilities:

  • Low-Poly Blockout: Created a low-poly version of the entire park based on real-world reference photos I captured on location and from top-down Google Maps.

  • Real-World Scale Modeling: Modeled all assets accurately to real-world scale, ensuring correct proportions and layout within the environment.

  • High-Detail Replacements: Upgraded the low-poly assets with more detailed models once the layout was approved.

  • Texturing Prep: Applied UVW Box Modifiers to prepare assets for streamlined texturing inside Unreal Engine.

  • Asset Transfer: Exported approved models to Unreal Engine using Datasmith, ensuring a clean import pipeline.

  • Camera Work: Set up the initial animation cameras, which were later refined by my Art Director for final presentation.

  • Asset Gathering: Collected and prepared high-poly asset options for approval before placing them into the scene.

  • Learning Opportunity: Used the finished Unreal scene as a study piece—breaking down my Art Director’s lighting, foliage workflow, material setup, and overall environment construction approach.

  • Rendering: Final rendering and cinematic capture were completed inside Unreal Engine 5.

Software used: 3ds Max, Unreal Engine 5, and After Effects.
